Hi Magic. I sure hope you're ok!!! I've noticed that there haven't been any postings here for weeks! Please let me know if you're ok.
I wanted to let you know about something I thought you'd be interested in about horses. The ABC News tonight had the person of the week as Madeline Pickens (or Pickins) and her efforts to buy land out West as a sancuary for the wild mustangs so they won't have to be destroyed because of infringing on grazing lands for cattle ranchers. (Mrs. Pickens is the widow of 'T.Bone' Pickens oil baron of Dallas and avid throughbred race horse owner)
http://www.barrelhorsewor...amp;start=21&posts=39 is a website forum I found where people seem to be against the whole idea. I'm sure there are many other websites out there with more information.
Evidently Pres. Bush has asked for some $$ from Congress to help keep the horses through the next year - until Mrs. Pickens can get her sancuary established. I agree $$ is too tight right now but there are hundreds of pork projects out there that have much less merit. If she wants to do this with her own money, that is more than wonderful! If she needs some help to get it off the ground, I think it might fall under the same umbrella as our National Parks.
Her dream is to have something like a park with over night cabins and observation towers and history lessons on the West to keep that part of our history alive and real to the coming generations. They don't even have the old Western movies to refer to! It sounds great to me. But then, I've just heard this much of the story. I just know that horses are the most beautiful animals in the world and there is nothing any more wonderful than to see a herd running wild and free!
